KINDERGARTEN
KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM
COMPONENTS OF CURRICULUM
CURRICULUM
Our teachers use a theme based curriculum with monthly themes and weekly units. These are designed to take children on a journey of learning throughout the year that fuels their excitement for new information and keeps them actively engaged on every level. Themes will be incorporated in all of the academic areas. Teachers have lots of flexibility to extend the learning experience on topics that prove to be of special interest to students. This allows the children to fully explore their curiosities.
PHYSICAL SPACE
SpaceClassrooms are strategically designed to provide an environment for your child to learn through individual discovery and play, group activities, and structured lesson plans. Each room is full of materials that inspire curiosity and excitement while incorporating soft areas to foster comfort and security. Learning centers throughout the room are specific to an academic focus, yet an array of skills is explored within each one.
IMAGINATION EXPLORATION
Your child will be transported daily to a world created only by their imagination. Our teachers encourage and facilitate the wonders that lie only within the youthful mind. Children will learn and grow through pretend role play while interacting with one another in dramatic play scenarios. Concepts such as cooperation, artistic expression and entrepreneurship are encouraged.
LITERACY
Literacy is infused in almost every aspect of the learning experience at Lighthouse. We focus on oral language comprehension, phonological awareness and print knowledge. Children are exposed to many daily shared reading experiences as well as individual exploration of our extensive classroom library. Literacy is also reinforced and encouraged in all other learning areas through the use of props and books presenting specific content. Our goal is to encourage children in their natural love of stories and books and inspire them in their inevitable journey to the world of reading and writing.
MUSIC
Singing and dancing is incorporated into many areas of their day. Teachers use songs and rhymes as well as instruments to expose the children to rhythms, sounds and creative movements. This is also fun and exciting way for the children to practice self expression.
DESIGN AND CREATE
We believe that creative expression of children is essential to their development. Your childwill be able to design and create through the use of a variety of materials. Some projects have a specific end result in mind which encourages self affirmation with the success of following specific directions. Many other activities are completely open ended encouraging unbridled self expression. The inner artist is destined to emerge!
SCIENCE
The world is our laboratory! Children are taught to take their questions about the world around them to another level. They learn how to find the answers! Often this is through experimentation and hands on experiences. We also incorporate the use of books to further their knowledge about the things around them. Math concepts often accompany our scientific endeavors and it is always exciting and fun!
MATH AND MANIPULATIVESLIL
COMMUNITY AND CULTURE
Children will be introduced to all of the wonderful aspects of our community at home and different communities all around the world. Firemen, police officers, dentists and other significant visitors come to share their stories. We will explore lots of other cultures including their day to day life, holidays and the things that make them special. We will learn all about the exciting and diverse world that we live in.
